Zimbabwe Weather Report And Forecast 17 - 19 May 2022

The Meteorological Services Department of Zimbabwe has released a weather report and forecast for the period 17 – 19 May 2022. Pindula News presents the report and forecast below:

PREAMBLE

ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS ON TUESDAY 17 MAY 2022 VALID UNTIL THURSDAY 19 MAY 2022.

Bulawayo Metropolitan, Matabeleland South, Masvingo, southern parts of Midlands, southern districts of Mashonaland East, Harare Metropolitan and Manicaland provinces were mostly cloudy, mild and windy; while the rest of the country had mostly clear skies and cold morning conditions with a slight frost in areas such as Henderson, Gweru and Mount Darwin.

FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, WEDNESDAY 18 MAY 2022

Cloudy and cool conditions are expected over Manicaland and Masvingo Provinces as well as parts of the Midlands. Cold both morning and evening. Elsewhere (Matabeleland South, Bulawayo, Matabeleland North, northern parts of Midlands, Harare and all Mashonaland Provinces), clear skies and cold morning conditions are anticipated with a slight ground frost in areas such as Matopos, Gweru, Kezi, Henderson and Marondera. It should be mild by day, becoming cold overnight.

• A decrease in temperature affects the body’s health, with common colds, influenza and fever, as well as asthma, being common.

• Wintry night may affect animals (pets and livestock) as well as plant life.

• Nights, when the sky is clear, are actually much colder than those where cloudy conditions persist.

• Ground frost is probable in areas such as Matopos, Gweru, Kezi, Henderson and Marondera.

ACTIONS TO TAKE

• Dress appropriately to keep warm and ensure that vulnerable members of society are kept warm.

• Poultry producers should note that broilers are sensitive to temperature variations and therefore need to be checked regularly and adjustments made.

• Farmers in areas prone to ground frost should undertake frost prevention measures such as overhead irrigation of crops.

• Construct fireguards that are at least 9 metres wide and free from any debris or combustible matter (anything that can burn).

• It is illegal to start veldt fire/uncontrolled burning of open fields.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR THURSDAY 19 MAY 2022;

Manicaland Province and parts of Mashonaland East should be cloudy and cold at first, becoming less cloudy and slightly warmer as the day progresses. All other areas should be mostly sunny and warm by day, though cold both morning and evening. Slight ground frost is highly probable in frost susceptible areas namely Matopos, Gweru, Kezi, Henderson, Harare and Marondera.
