Highlanders Have Sacked Head Coach Mandla Mpofu And His Technical Team

Highlanders Football Club has dismissed head coach Mandla Mpofu and his technical team save for assistant coach Joel Luphahla.

The development comes shortly after the Sunday clash with Harare giants, Dynamos who were trailing by a goal when the match was abandoned after supporters invaded the pitch accusing the match officials of being biased towards iBosso.

The gaffer has been under fire from the club’s fans, who have been demanding his dismissal after a poor run in the Castle Lager Premiership.

Bosso have picked just two wins in their last ten games and are on a four-match run of draws.

The performances have left the Bulawayo giants on number 11 and fourteen points behind table-toppers Dynamos, whom they faced at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.

Speaking to the reporters on Thursday, Mpofu said: “You guys (the media) are experts in your field, and I am an expert in coaching. You have got no chance on that.

Mpofu recently blamed the media for inciting his then-impending dismissal.

He also recently said he was working on delivering better results.

The supporters taunted the coach after Bosso went two goals down at one point during their 2-2 draw against Bulawayo Chiefs a fortnight ago.

Highlanders have changed coaches 10 times since 2012 but have failed to win the premier league title since 2006.

Kelvin Kaindu, Bongani Mafu, Elroy Akbay, Madinda Ndlovu, Pieter De Jongh, Mark Harrison and Mandla “Lulu” Mpofu (with two spells) have all been in charge at Highlanders in the last decade.
