Minor's Pregnancy Terminated After She Was Raped By "Prophet"
A self-proclaimed prophet from the Johane Masowe Chishanu sect in Chirumhanzu District, Midlands Province, recently appeared in court on allegations of raping a minor.
The self-styled prophet, Pepukayi Mutambu (39) is from Hoto village under Chief Hama in Chirumhanzu District.
He allegedly raped a 15-year-old old girl and threatened her with madnessJohane Masowe Chishanu, Chirumhanzu District, self-styled prophet if she reported the matter.
Mutambu appeared before Mvuma magistrate Constance Mutandwa facing one count of rape. He was not asked to plead.
He was remanded in custody to 9 June when he will be expected to bring a lawyer as he requested.

Prosecutor Tafadzwa Zulu told the court that the alleged rape occurred on Valentine’s Day at the accused’s home.
It is further alleged that villagers slaughtered a cow and Mutambu, who is a member of a village beef committee, offered his refrigerator to his fellow villagers.
Some villagers took up the free offer and left their meat in the accused’s fridge.
On 14 February, the complainant, together with her young uncle was sent to collect some meat for supper.
When they arrived at Mutambu’s homestead, he allegedly asked the complainant’s uncle to go to his shrine and deliver a message to the congregants who were gathered there.
The complainant allegedly entered the room where the fridge was to collect meat and Mutambu followed her inside.
The suspect allegedly closed the door and played music on full blast and raped the teenager.
He reported seized the complainant’s undergarments and threatened to use them to kill her or make her mad if she divulged the rape or refused to sleep with him again.
The court heard that Mutambu raped the minor three more times and in the course of the abuse, she fell pregnant.
The girl then informed her parents of the rape and the matter was reported at Charandura Police station on 22 March.
Detectives trapped Mutambu and arrested him at the complainant’s house where he intended to give her parents a bribe of US$185.
Mutambu subsequently threatened the complainant and her mother with insanity and death unless the matter was withdrawn.
Meanwhile, the minor tested positive for pregnancy at Charandura Hospital.
The pregnancy was later terminated on 13 April.
