Zimbabwe Weather Report & Forecast: 08 To 10 May 2022

The weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Services Department in conjunction with the Department of Civil Protection.

ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS ON SUNDAY 08 MAY 2022 VALID UNTIL TUESDAY 10 MAY 2022.

PREAMBLE

It was cool in most places this morning, with mostly clear skies, but became rapidly warm by afternoon. However, a relatively cool sea breeze is drifting in from the east.

FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, MONDAY 09 MAY 2022

It should be cool at first with a chance of slight ground frost in frost susceptible areas such as Matopos, Henderson and Rusape.

By afternoon, brief cloudy conditions and isolated showers are expected over parts of Manicaland with mostly sunny and warm conditions in all other areas. Note that cool overnight conditions are still anticipated countrywide.

IMPACTS

  • As winter approaches, nighttime conditions tend to be cool especially when skies are clear.
  • Ground frost is probable in frost-prone areas.
  • Veldt fires tend to be rampant during this period and can destroy vast tracts of land and property as well as pose a threat to human and animal life.
  • A decrease in temperature affects the body’s health, with common colds, influenza and fever, as well as asthma, being common. It may affect animals (pets and livestock) and plants too.

ACTIONS TO TAKE

  • Dress appropriately to keep warm and if need be seek advice from a certified health professional.
  • Please ensure that vulnerable members of society are kept warm.
  • Poultry producers should note that broilers are sensitive to temperature variations and therefore need to be checked regularly and adjustments made.
  • Farmers in areas prone to ground frost should undertake frost prevention measures such as overhead irrigation of crops.
  • Construct fireguards that are at least 9 metres wide and free from any debris or combustible matter (anything that can burn).
  • Do not burn grass; use it as stock feed through hay-bailing, or for thatching and bedding for poultry.

  • Victoria Falls: Mostly sunny and warm (Temperatures – 12/30)
  • Kariba: Mostly sunny and warm – (Temperatures – 16/31)
  • Great Zimbabwe: Mostly sunny and warm (Temperatures – 14/27)
  • Nyanga: Briefly cloudy, windy and mild (Temperatures – 09/23)
  • Vumba: Briefly cloudy, windy and mild (Temperatures – 12/27)
  • Matopos: Mostly sunny and warm but cool overnight (Temperatures – 09/27)
  • Chimanimani: Briefly cloudy, windy and mild (Temperatures – 15/24)

WEATHER FORECAST FOR TUESDAY 10 MAY 2022;

Brief cloudy periods are anticipated over Manicaland reducing the occurrence of frost in areas such as Nyanga and Mukandi into Rusape.

However, areas such as Matopos, Henderson and Chivhu remain prone to slight frost, with cool morning conditions countrywide.

It should be warm by afternoon with mostly clear skies over much of the country, becoming cool towards evening.
