Zimbabwe Weather Report & Forecast: 17 To 19 April 2022

The weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Services Department in conjunction with the Department of Civil Protection.

ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS ON SUNDAY 17 APRIL 2022 VALID UNTIL TUESDAY 19 APRIL 2022.

PREAMBLE

Moisture from the west and that from the south-east resulted in cloudy conditions and rain showers over much of the country (except the north-eastern parts, namely Harare Metropolitan, Mashonaland East and Central).

The highest rainfall amounts were in Victoria Falls and Zaka, both measuring 62mm by this morning; while Chipinge, Bulawayo and Chisengu had 55mm, 35mm and 34mm respectively. NB: The relatively cooler winds from the southeast are driving away much of the rains.

FORECAST

Consequently, TOMORROW, MONDAY 18 APRIL 2022 is forecast to be cloudy, windy and mild in Bulawayo Metropolitan, Matabeleland South, southern parts of Midlands, Masvingo and Manicaland Provinces, with light drizzle in places.

Matabeleland North, northern parts of Midland, Harare Metropolitan and all Mashonaland Provinces should be mostly cloudy and warm with isolated showers, which may be thundery in places.

It is expected to be mild both morning and night.

  • A decrease in temperature affects the body’s health, with common colds, influenza and fever, as well as asthma, being common. Dress appropriately to keep warm and if need be seek advice from a certified health professional.
  • Rain may affect adversely affect crops in the field awaiting harvest, thus harvesting and suitable storage for drying is recommended where possible.
  • When thunder roars, it is best to be indoors. If outdoors please find shelter immediately; do not shelter under trees or in an isolated shed. Do not ride at the back of an open truck or a tractor.
  • Do not cross rivers or streams of unknown depths even if no heavy rains have occurred in your area, they may have occurred upstream.

OUTLOOK

WEATHER FORECAST FOR TUESDAY 19 APRIL 2022; Harare Metropolitan and all Mashonaland Provinces should be mostly cloudy and warm with isolated thunderstorms and heavy downpours in places. Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Masvingo and Manicaland Province into the southern parts of Mashonaland East: cloudy, windy and mild conditions are anticipated with rain and drizzle in districts such as Beitbridge, Mwenezi, Chiredzi, Chipinge, Zaka and Bikita.

Matabeleland North and northern parts of the Midlands are expected to be mostly sunny, humid and hot; however, brief cloudy periods and an odd shower remain probable. It should be mild both morning and night.
