Mthuli Ncube Pledges To Release School Fees For Teachers' Children

Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube has said the Government is in the process of drawing up modalities for the payment of school fees for the children of teachers.

Early this year the Government made a commitment to pay school fees for every teacher’s three biological children.

However, the Government failed to honour its commitment during the 2022 first term which ended on 3 April.

In a letter dated 21 March 2022, Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) Secretary-General Robson Chere requested Ncube to expedite the payment of school fees for children of teachers.

Responding to Chere in his letter dated 11 April 2022, Ncube said the Ministry of Education and PSC are currently gathering information to ascertain those who are eligible and once the process has been completed, the funds will be released. Said Ncube:

Treasury notes your submission and has forwarded this to the Public Service Commission who are ceased with coordinating the drawing up of the modalities for implementation of the benefit.

I am aware that the Public Service Commission and Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education have already started the process of gathering information on eligible members to benefit from payment of school fees.

Once the consolidation and verification have been done, the Treasury, based on due PFMS processes, will avail funding to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education for channelling payments direct to the respective schools.

Ncube’s letter to Chere was copied to George Guvamatanga, Secretary for Finance and Economic Development Ambassador Jonathan Wutawunashe, Secretary to the Public Service Commission Mrs Tumisang Thabela, Secretary for Primary and Secondary Education P Kunaka, Chief Director, Expenditure Management.
