Roderick Mutuma Quits Playing Football Aged 34

Former Warriors, Dynamos, Highlanders and CAPS United striker, Roderick Mutuma, has retired from football at the age of 34.

Mutuma suffered a career-threatening injury at his last club, Saint-Eloi Lupopo, of the Democratic Republic of Congo and returned home but no team expressed interest in his services.

Speaking to H-Metro, Mutuma revealed that he decided to hang up his boots due to a lack of interest from the local football clubs. He said:

That’s the main reason why I made my decision, maybe, these clubs are of the opinion that I no longer have anything to offer.

I have seen the light and the dark side of football. It’s now time to explore other avenues, in life you never know.

I’m very grateful to everyone who contributed to ensuring that I become the person that I am today.

I did some things, which I regret up to now, but that’s life and nobody is perfect, “I want to apologise to everyone whom I wronged.

Mutuma became one of the few footballers to play for all of Zimbabwe’s “Big Three” clubs, that is Dynamos, Highlanders and Caps United.

The “privileged” list includes Munyaradzi Diya, Stephen Alimenda, Stewart Murisa and Valentine Ndaba.

Besides playing for the Big Three and DRC’s Saint-Eloi Lupopo, Mutuma also played for Yadah Stars and Chegutu Pirates in Zimbabwe and Bloemfontein Celtic in South Africa.
