CCC MPs’ Yellow Ties Cause Commotion At Parliament

Security personnel at Parliament on Wednesday attempted to block CCC MPs led by Tendai Biti from entering the august House for wearing yellow ties.

This came after National Assembly Speaker Jacob Mudenda on Tuesday directed CCC legislators not to wear anything yellow following protests by ZANU PF legislators.

Yesterday, Mudenda revealed that CCC attire would be investigated to establish if it did not violate Parliament’s Standing Rules and Orders. He said:

I have been checking on the provisions of standing orders, I shall rule as follows, there should be a meeting of representatives from the government side led by the leader of government business (Ziyambi Ziyambi) and the ZANU PF chief whip (Pupurai Togarepi) and from the other side, we get a representative so that we look closely at the standing orders and come up with a conclusion.

  1. The country is in dire straits. A few days ago the exchange rate climbed to 300 to 1 USD. And Parliament is concerned with the colour of ties? In Parliament of all places, it is clearly evident to which party a member belongs. Is there a problem if this is further emphasised by the colour of a tie?
