The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education said that Lower Sixth classes will commence lessons in the second term.
This comes after the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) has failed to release Ordinary Level examination results in time, with the first term ending on Thursday, 07 April.
Education Ministry spokesperson, Taungana Ndoro, told State media that it is not possible to make an arrangement that will allow Form Five pupils to start attending lessons this term. Said Ndoro:
For now, it is impossible to have a special arrangement for the Lower Sixth pupils for them to resume classes for the first term.
What will happen is that the parents and guardians will use the school holiday to look for places and they will start lessons with the rest of the classes for the second term.
For now, we are awaiting ZIMSEC to release the Ordinary Level results which I believe is now imminent.
Normally, O’ Level results are released towards the end of January so that Form Five pupils start attending lessons during the first term.
ZIMSEC has not revealed the reasons why the results are still not out but the marking of examinations was disrupted by markers’ strike over unpaid allowances which might have caused the delay.
This is a good inconvenience. usually Lower Six learners pay full school fees for term one and they learn for two weeks then school close. Just check if it is a normal year, what happens to Form 5 learners.
Dont just look at this in that view because im sure you are aware that they will lose a lot of learning time and of which they are expected to write a standard exam in which learners can be subject to be halted by lockdown which is even more disadvantageous on their side. Parents of Zimbabwe Prepare your F5 kids to start school this holiday for unplanned events such as spiking covid 19 cases in winter are subject to occurance. Be open minded of the situation that government does not care about our children’s wellbeing but enforce laws that dont maximize utility they will disadvantage our kids and we will be the ones found wanting……..It was Hard for my Boys to Cope with the harsh covid 19 pandemic last year as they had to battle police and at the same time transport fare difficulty. So as parents let us make contingency plans for any disaster that might lie ahead
Well said
