By-elections Update: Chamisa Speaks On Results

The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa, has said the results of Saturday 26 March 2022 are an indication that all authority comes from the citizenry.

He speaks as results released by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) have revealed that his party prevailed in most constituencies and wards where elections were held. He said:

This by-election has shown that ultimately all authority comes from the CITIZENS. Citizens are above politicians & their foolish politics. Why did you waste national resources taxpayers’ money? Would these resources not have been deployed to better our health, education sectors?

The by-elections were held to replace 28 members of Parliament (MPs) and 121 councillors who died and those who were recalled from office.

Most of the recalled were members of the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa. They were recalled by rival MDC-T following a 2020 Supreme Court ruling which ruled that Chamisa was not the legitimate leader of the MDC that contested in the 2018 elections.

Chamisa saw the recalls as a strategy by the ruling ZANU PF to dismantle the opposition in the land. They accused MDC-T of acting at the instigation of the ruling party.

Following the Supreme Court ruling, the government gave funds under the Political Parties (Finance) Act to the MDC-T in proportion to the MDC Alliance vote of 2018.

The development has infuriated the Chamisa-led party which believes it should be receiving the money since Chamisa contested the 2018 elections, not Douglas Mwonzora.

  1. Well done babamunini, now go build structures and remember reconciliation is the golden rule of leadership, stop belittling your opponents, you do not have structures in maitengwe, tuli block, malipati etc zanu has structures there. Celebrate less these seats are a protest vote, real work starts now, you have people who worked for this campaign using their resources they expect some returns, go for elective congress and play fairplay otherwise you risk a carry forward of internally inflicted fights

  2. Lets go to areas we lost lets go deep to rural areas. Douglas is history yes CCC let’s work. We want Uzumba we want Murehwa

  3. So with these results who now qualifies between Chamisa’s and Douglas’s party to receive funds under the Political Parties (Finance) Act for next year general elections

  4. Well you never know with zvima courts zve muno.Muchaona zvichaitwa. But thumbs up for those who are behind mukomana.

  5. What is it that has been won. If people vote based on colour and emotions, even the one does not deserve to wins. We look forward to service delivery in the areas that the CCC has won. Otherwise the biggest losers are those who voted for the so called winners. I am looking forward to water being available in all suburbs, sewage being a thing of the past in Kambuzuma, and refuse being collected weekly as was being done 20 years ago. People in Uzumba and Murewa and other areas are politically mature and are not swayed by colours or handsome faces. They know a lying face. They are also mature.

  6. We must not blame those who are in offices but let’s blame the central government they are the ones who drags the oppositions feet.Remember someone long back tells the ratepayers that their debts are cancelled.Did we know how that was to affect the service delivery we need to think sometimes.
