Police Clear Chamisa's CCC Epworth Rally

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has withdrawn the prohibition order issued in respect of a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Star rally scheduled for Olympic stadium, Epworth, on 24 of March 2022.

The police had banned the rally citing a shortage of manpower to provide security at the event.

The Officer Commanding Police, Harare East District, one Chief Superintendent C Muzivi notified CCC that police officers have been deployed to various polling stations in preparation for the by-elections.

However, ZRP has rescinded the prohibition order and advised CCC to proceed with the rally but ensure that certain conditions are met. In a letter addressed to CCC member Patrick Moyo of Overspill, Epworth, ZRP said:

I acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 11 March 2022… whereby you intend to hold a Star Rally at Olympic stadium, Epworth, on 24 of March 2022 from 1100 to 1600 hours.

However, after consultations, the meeting may go ahead as scheduled.

CCC has been directed to ensure that there are sufficient marshals to secure the venue and that there shall be no deviation from venue, date and time regulated.

Police also instructed CCC to ensure that the event is for the purpose applied for and no toy toy and car rallies shall be made at any given time.

The CCC was further ordered to comply with COVID-19 pandemic regulations and to cooperate with the police and other government agents.

The Epworth Star rally is the CCC’s final rally before the 26 March by-elections and will be addressed by party leader Nelson Chamisa.

Five candidates are vying for the Epworth National Assembly seat. These are Earthrage Kureva (CCC), Hazvineyi Makari (ZANU PF), Zivai Mhetu (MDC Alliance), Richard Musiyadzaanikwa (LEAD) and Innocent Hazvina (Independent).
