Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Change Champion-in-chief, Nelson Chamisa, on Sunday assured his supporters that he has insiders in the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) working with him to avert vote-rigging in future elections.
In 2018, Chamisa rejected the results of the presidential election, alleging rigging after ZEC declared President Emmerson Mnangagwa the winner.
Addressing thousands of party supporters during a rally at Mkoba Stadium in Gweru on Sunday, Chamisa claimed he now had “eyes” within ZEC. He said:
This time I assure you, there will be no rigging, I now have eyes in ZEC, I am being briefed about their every move and even if they want to rig, we will know in advance and act to avert it.
Chamisa challenged the 2018 results at the Constitutional Court but his application was dismissed for lack of evidence.
The CCC leader also assured security chiefs that they will not lose their jobs if he is elected president in 2023. He said:
I know that the security forces are scared to lose their jobs in the event that CCC becomes the government. But they should not be scared.
It is corrupt ZANU PF leaders who we want to remove and arrest in the new government.
Those in government who fear that they will lose their jobs, don’t worry, fear not because we are not after removing the head, but we want to change the haircut, we are after the politicians and not government workers.
Government is not an industry, it is not supposed to be a space where you come for cars, money and jobs for the boys — no. Our government will be lean, with 12 to 13 ministers only and no deputies.
Chamisa ruled out a coalition with MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora, saying the once vibrant opposition party is now “dead”.
