Manica Diamonds Beat CAPS United 6-2

Manica Diamonds ran riot on Sunday to comprehensively defeat CAPS United in a Castle Lager Premiership match played at Sakubva Stadium.

CAPS United conceded 6 goals in total, 5 of them coming in the first half, while they managed to put 2 past the Gem Boys’ goalkeeper.

Manica Diamonds scored through Charles Teguru (2′), Lloyd Katongomara (18′), Collin Dhuwa (24′), Katongamara (36′), Teguru (41′) and Farai Mugumwa (59′).

William Manondo (57′) pulled one back for the Green Machine, with Clive Augusto netting their second goal in the 61st minute but it was a case of too little too late.

Both teams were reduced to 10 men after referee Arnold Ncube red-carded Katongomara and Valentine Musarurwa for exchanging blows in the 63rd minute.

CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe said the loss had nothing to do with the financial challenges that the club has been facing of late. He said:

This is a terrible result. We had never expected it. We lost the match in the first half. They (Manica Diamonds) managed to win the game early.

We just could not play our usual game and we paid dearly for the mistakes that we made along the way, especially in the first half.

Well, the performance today was bad but it has nothing to do with the off the field challenges that the club has been facing.

In fact, our situation has greatly improved and this is why I am saying the heavy defeat has nothing to do with the financial challenges that we faced in recent months.

Manica Diamonds coach, Johanisi Nhumwa, expressed satisfaction with the victory and singled out Teguru for special praise. He said:

I really want to thank my boys for this impressive performance. They really played well today and I am happy about that.

When you look back at how Charles Teguru destroyed CAPS United you feel proud to have such a player in your team. Overall, all the players did well.

We are not going to read too much into this victory since the league marathon is still a long way to go. We just need to keep our foot on the pedal.
