"Riot Police Deployed To Beat Protesting ZIMSEC Exam Markers" - Sikhala

Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) official Job Sikhala has claimed that riot police was been deployed Monday to beat up teachers marking the ZIMSEC O’ level examination at Midlands State University (MSU) after they protested over unpaid allowances.

He further claimed that the same incident is reported at Mutare poly in Manicaland. He said:

Riot police has been deployed to beat up ‘O’level Examination markers at MSU campus after their 20 000rtgs allowances has not been paid. The same is being reported at Mutare Poly where other markers from Manicaland are based. Why don’t the riot police mark the Exams themselves.

He also posted a video of the examination markers in Masvingo singing denouncing the government after the death of their colleague, allegedly from stress.

Sikhala added that riot police in Bulawayo was deployed at Bulawayo Polytechnic to force teachers to mark Exams.

Meanwhile, Takavafira Zhou, the president of the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) has said the Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) must stop taking teachers for granted.

He said teachers who checked in for marking as far back as 9 February this year have not been paid their travel and subsistence (T&S), yet, they are not in residential accommodation.

Zhou added that there were reports that examiners were becoming stressed and collapsing and dying because they are being illtreated y ZIMSEC.
