National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) leader Lovemore Madhuku has revealed why his party will not be fielding candidates in the upcoming by-elections set for 26 March.
Madhuku said he is focused on building NCA structures as well as pushing for electoral reforms using the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) platform ahead of the general elections in 2023.
Madhuku is an active member of POLAD and faced criticism last year when he, alongside other POLAD interlocutors, accepted all-terrain vehicles from President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Responding to a question on why he failed to field a single candidate for the by-elections, Madhuku said:
We have two immediate and pressing priorities: building the NCA for 2023 and beyond and using the POLAD platform to achieve electoral reforms ahead of 2023.
I made this public at an NCA Press briefing immediately after proclaiming by-election dates.
POLAD was launched on 17 May 2019 by Mnangagwa and brought together more than a dozen individuals who contested the 2018 presidential election.
Mnangagwa’s closest rival in the election, Nelson Chamisa, who was the MDC Alliance presidential candidate, refused to join POLAD, calling it a charade.
Shout up Regime Enabler Build NCA for how long since donkey years
Madhuku is absolutely correct because he knows it very well that he has no base to speak from, he has nothing to offer and that he speaks for himself minus his own family…!
