Zimbabwe Weather Report & Forecast: 28 To 30 January 2022

ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS ON FRIDAY 28 JANUARY 2022 VALID UNTIL SUNDAY 30 JANUARY 2022.

PREAMBLE

As the remnants of the Tropical Depression Ana exited the country through the north-western parts of the country, it reinforced the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone to the south of Zambia and resulted in heavy rain in Mashonaland West into Mashonaland Central.

The highest amount noted was 185mm at Mashumbi Tsetse Control in Mbire, followed by 75mm and 45mm in Guruve and Mvurwi respectively.

However, the atmosphere is becoming less moist as these systems become less active.

FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, SATURDAY 29 JANUARY 2022:

Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, all Mashonaland Provinces, northern parts Manicaland and Masvingo Provinces, should be mostly cloudy with moderate rain-showers which may be thundery in places.

Warm conditions are anticipated by day becoming mild towards evening. Areas such as the southern districts of Masvingo and the southern part of Manicaland are expected to be briefly cloudy with light showers and a light breeze time and again.

IMPACTS

  • Thunder and lightning may affect your plans, please plan with the weather in mind.
  • Flooded rivers remain a potential hazard; even if it has not rained heavily in the area, heavy rains may have occurred upstream.
  • Heavy rains may induce localized flash flooding in areas with poor drainage or along rivers.
  • Some dams are filled to capacity; this can cause downstream flooding should the dams overspill.

ACTIONS TO TAKE

  • When Thunder roars, it is best to be indoors! If outdoor, try and find shelter immediately; do not shelter under trees or in isolated sheds.
  • Avoid crossing flooded rivers and swollen streams whether on foot or in a vehicle.
  • Heavy downpours may reduce visibility and flood dangers become difficult to perceive during heavy rains. Avoid being outdoors during heavy rains.
  • Do not ride at the back of an open truck or drive a tractor during a storm; keep away from metal equipment and pipes, or kitchen areas as these are prone to lightning strikes.

  • Kariba: Cloudy with heavy rains (Temperatures – 22/32)
  • Great Zimbabwe: Mostly cloudy with light rains (Temperatures – 19/28)
  • Nyanga: Mostly cloudy with rain-showers – 15/23)
  • Vumba:  Mostly cloudy with light rains (Temperatures – 18/27)
  • Matopos: Mostly cloudy with light rains (Temperatures – 18/25)
  • Chimanimani:  Mostly cloudy with rain-showers (Temperatures – 19/26)

WEATHER FORECAST FOR, SUNDAY 30 JANUARY 2022;

Briefly cloudy and warm conditions with scattered afternoon thunderstorms are expected in areas to the north of the main watershed.

Windy and brief cloudy periods are anticipated in Beitbridge, Mwenezi, Chiredzi and Chipinge Districts as windy and mild conditions spread northward into Masvingo, Matabeleland South and Manicaland Provinces (areas to the south of the main watershed).

It should be mostly sunny and warm in areas along the main watershed, though brief cloudy periods and isolated showers remain probable.

Mild mornings and evenings should permeate the entire country.
