Minister Allays Fears Of Vehicle Number Plates Shortage

Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister Felix Mhona said the Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) has adequate number plates in stock.

Mhona said his ministry fully supports the ongoing Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) operation targetting unlicensed, uninsured and unregistered motor vehicles.

He indicated that on Tuesday he will visit the CVR to understand the challenges they are facing in issuing numbers plates. Said Mhona:

The issue of vehicle number plates has become topical and I want to take this opportunity to inform the nation that we have adequate number plates in stock.

Issues of order are important in every jurisdiction and as a Ministry, we fully support the blitz by law enforcement agencies on unregistered cars which are largely contributing to the high crime rate in the country.

We don’t tolerate corruption in the issuance of number plates and tomorrow I will visit CVR to understand the challenges they are facing in issuing numbers plates.

There is no need for the public to pay extra money to get the plates.

In a statement on Monday, the Police said 2 238 motorists have been arrested since the operation was launched on Saturday.

  1. So maybe the Minister would like to comment on this! Our new Isuzu that has temporary plates and a receipt for payment of number plates, yet to be supplied was impounded yesterday at Mabelreign Police Station. If there were adequate number plates we would have had them by now!!! It’s not our fault but the Governments once again. It’s not like we can just go to Halsteds or somewhere like that to get them. As usual, the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing and this Minister has absolutley no clue. Oh for this Government to do something without having to lie!!!!! If yesterday was bad with vehicle being impounded today is going to be worse dealing with useless, corrupt ZRP in an attempt to get the vehicle WITH TEMPORARY PLATES out of their over-powering clutches.

  2. And to add insult to injury while trying to get another vehicle and going through the Golden Stairs toll gate and un plated car was seen going backwards and forwards (twice actually) without being stopped or impounded. Why you ask? Because a ZRP was driving it as his taxi. And there you have it!!!!!
