Quarantine Fraudsters Target Returning Residents

The Government, through the Ministry of Health and Child Care, has warned people against using third parties to apply for home quarantine.

According to Statutory Instrument 267 of 2021, returning residents who test negative for COVID-19 and have been outside the country for a period of fewer than 14 days may be allowed to self-quarantine at their respective homes.

Since home quarantine will be granted prior to inspection and approval of the facilities by health officials, some individuals claiming to work on behalf of the government had taken it upon themselves to facilitate the process.

However, in a statement this Monday, the Ministry of Health said it does not work with third parties. The statement read:

The Ministry of Health and Child Care wishes to advise returning residents, visitors and members of the public that it does not work through third parties.

Furthermore, applications for home quarantine for returning residents and visitors shall be guided by guidelines outlined in the Ministry’s press statement issued on 3 December 2021 under subject “Press Statement on COVID-19 guidelines for returning residents and visitors coming into Zimbabwe from abroad.”

Applicants are warned against the use of third parties as they may be defrauded.
