Man Killed Over “Who Will Rule Zimbabwe” Argument

A 35-year-old man from Glendale was murdered following an argument with the suspect over who will rule Zimbabwe, police have confirmed.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the now-deceased Irvine Mafuratidze was murdered by Zulu Kondwani (50) after the two argued about who will rule the country. Said Nyathi:

The ZRP is investigating a murder case that occurred in Glendale, where Irvine Mafuratidze (35) was murdered by suspect Zulu Kondwani (50) after some political arguments on who will rule the country, on October 31 at about 1400 hrs.

Police urge the public to shun dealing in illicit drugs for the safety of communities and the country in general.

This comes as political tensions have risen in Zimbabwe ahead of much-anticipated presidential elections set for 2023.

MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa is expected to challenge the current head of state, Emmerson Mnangagwa, for the second time after they faced each other for the first time in the disputed 2018 presidential election.

Mnangagwa took over from the late Robert Mugabe who was deposed in a military coup in 2017 while Chamisa succeeded, albeit under controversial circumstances, the late former trade unionist Morgan Tsvangirai who died on 14 February 2018.
