FAKE Recruiters: Police Arrest A Fraudster In Karoi, Hunt Others

The Zimbabwe Republic Police Friday announced the arrest of a suspected fraudster who was part of a three-member team that duped unsuspecting job seekers of US$2410 to train as VID officers. Pindula News presents a statement by police national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating a case of fraud where five people from Karoi in Mashonaland West Province were swindled US$2410-00 after being promised employment to train as VID officers.

On 17 September 2021, three suspects; Jobie Tuhwe, Richard Tichawangana Neshiri (alias Makaza) and Chipo Munyaka, approached and misrepresented to the complainants in Karoi that they can secure them places to train as VID officers in Harare. They then asked complainants to deposit US$482-00 each through a bureau-de-change, an amount they said would cover food, accommodation and other expenses during training.

When the money was deposited, the accused persons told complainants to wait for a vehicle from VID Chinhoyi that would pick them on 21 September 2021 around 1100 hours in Karoi. The complainants waited for the said transport until 1800 hours and it did not come. They tried to call the accused persons and their cellphones were no longer reachable. That is when they realized that they had been duped and went on to make a police report.

Police have since arrested Jobie Tuhwe, whilst the two others, Richard Neshiri and Chipo Munyaka, are on the run.
