ZIFA To Pay Former Warriors Coach Zdravko Logarusic US$90 000 As Severance Package

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) is set to pay former senior men’s team coach Zdravko Logarušić US$90 000 as a severance package, Kukurigo news service reports.

Under the agreement, Logarušić will receive US$35 000 being money from sign-on fees, outstanding bonuses and liquidated damages. He will receive US$55 000 – which is 10% of the US$550 000 that Zimbabwe is given for qualifying for a third successive Africa Cup of Nations finals.

Logarusic was fired on Sunday after picking only one point from Zimbabwe’s first two matches in Group G of the 2022 World Cup first round of qualifiers. In total, the Warriors only won one match out of 14 under Logarisic’s tutelage.

It remains to be seen if ZIFA will pay the entire US$90 000 at one go with the football governing body still owing Norman Mapeza, who was appointed interim coach today,  from his previous stints as Warriors coach.  ZIFA is still to pay the US$100 000 it owes Callisto Pasuwa who led Zimbabwe to the 2017 AFCON finals in Gabon.

Zimbabwe was banned from the 2018 World Cup qualifying for failing to pay its former national team coach Jose Claudinei Georgini. The Brazilian football manager nicknamed Valinhos managed the Warriors from January to November 2008. A US$150 000 debt owed to Belgian coach Tom Saintfeit who was deported on his first day of training after engaging in his duties without a work permit in 2010 also threatened Zimbabwe’s participation at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
