A Zupco conductor identified as Joy Moyo was yesterday shot dead in Dzivarasekwa 4 at around 9 PM.
The woman was allegedly shot point-blank in the head by a man who was disembarking at bus stop. The shooter disappeared into the night and is yet to be apprehended. The reason for the murder has not been established by the police.
The news spread on social media in Zimbabwe at night soon after the event but the facts of the matter were yet to be established.
National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the news to a Zimpapers publication:
“It’s true, we can confirm that a female ZUPCO conductor was shot dead by an unknown assailant while dropping passengers in Dzivarasekwa 4. The incident took place around 9pm on Monday.
We are still to establish the motive of the shooting because the assailant just shot the woman and disappeared into the darkness without taking anything,
We have launched a manhunt for the gunman and we are appealing to members of the public who might have information which may lead to his arrest to report to their nearest police station.
ZUPCO public relations officer Obert Chikuku, also confirmed the death:
“It’s true we lost one of our conductors in a shooting in Dzivarasekwa on Monday night. We are still to establish the motive of the shooting because the gunman didn’t rob anything from the bus crew. We are suspecting that he could be having issues with the deceased. We are really sorry to the family for the sad loss.”
