Killer Dad Axes Police Officers And Flees

Police have launched a manhunt for a man from Mafuta village, Mudzi, who killed his two-year-old son before attacking two police officers with an axe and stones who were investigating the murder incident.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Steven Nyakarenda (37) on 2 September struck Constable Shiri on the head with a rock and Assistant Inspector Kugotsi with an axe on the head and shoulder before fleeing from the scene.

The duo was part of a team of police officers who had gone to Nyakarenda’s homestead to investigate the murder case. A statement issued by Asst Comm Nyathi this Wednesday says:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police is concerned with the conduct of some criminals who are now resorting to attacking police officers while in the process of effecting arrests in the country.

In this regard, the Police will brook no nonsense in dealing with such criminals who attack police officers. The public is reminded that according to the country’s laws attacking police officers whilst there are performing constitutional responsibilities is punishable with imprisonment once one is taken to court.
