Police Arrest Five Notorious Armed Robbers

Statement by national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi on the arrest of suspected armed robbers in Bulawayo and Plumtree.

ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR ROBBERY IN BULAWAYO AND PLUMTREE

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Thubelihle Ncube (34) and Sonto Sibanda (32) in connection with a spate of robbery cases that occurred during the period 13 August 2021 to 04 September 2021 in Bulawayo and Plumtree.

On 04 September 2021 Police received information that Sonto Sibanda was using a cellphone that was stolen in a robbery case that occurred in Plumtree.

The suspects had attacked the complainant and stole BWP1 300, USD$250, ZWL30 000, cash, as well as cellphones.

Detectives raided Sonto Sibanda’s homestead in Bulawayo resulting in his arrest and recovery of the stolen cellphone.

The suspect implicated his accomplice, Thubelihle Ncube and the other two suspects who are still at large.

The suspects are also linked to a robbery case that occurred on 13 August 2021 in Emganwini, Bulawayo where US$900, ZAR3 400, ZWL6 000 and three cellphones were stolen.

The gang was also involved in another case which occurred on 14 August 2021 along St Lawrence Road, Parklands, Bulawayo in which US$400 and a cellphone were stolen and a case that occurred along Calderwood Road, Sunninghill, Bulawayo where US$150, laptops and a cellphone were stolen.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the outstanding suspects, Simelweyinkosi Dube and Kaunda Ndlovu.

Meanwhile, on 5 September 2021, Police officers manning a roadblock at Nottingham turn off, Beitbridge arrested Hoko Senzangakona (39), Fanuel Mbedzi, Mashudu Mbedzi (30) and Prince Ndou (30) for a robbery case that occurred in Toporo Village 9 Beitbridge on the same date, in which the suspects robbed the complainant US$120 cash and two cellphones.

The arrest led to the recovery of a blood-stained axe, knife, knobkerrie, sjambock, and 2 cell phones.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police warns criminals involved in robbery cases that their days are numbered and the law will soon catch up with them.
