“CHANGE IS UNSTOPPABLE” – Chamisa Responds To Mnangagwa

Nelson Chamisa, leader of opposition MDC Alliance, has said change is unstoppable in response to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s “ZANU PF Rule Is Here To Stay” remarks.

Mnangagwa told the ZANU PF Politburo that the party was revolutionary, and had an inclusive vision for a brighter, more prosperous future.

He added that the opposition’s “failure” to provide required public goods and services in urban areas was also prolonging ZANU PF’s stay in power.

In response, Chamisa, a former Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services (GNU era), said nothing is permanent. He wrote on Twitter this Sunday:

CHANGE IS UNSTOPPABLE. Nothing and nobody is permanent. Don’t ever mistakenly think that you own the country. Parties don’t own people. People are not objects. Nobody and no party ever ruled or rules forever except GOD. Zimbabwe needs leaders, not rulers. Blessed Sunday Zimbabwe.

The two leaders speak as Zimbabwe is gearing for the 2023 elections with Mnangagwa aiming to extend his rule to at least 2028.

He also previously indicated that he will be in office beyond 2030.

Nelson Chamisa and the opposition aim to dislodge ZANU PF from power for the first time following a series of deafeat in previous elections which were described as “rigged”, “manipulated,” “marred with violence,” and “not free and fair.”

MDC Alliance is still refusing to admit loss in the 2018 presidential election arguing that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) connived with the ruling party to manipulate results in Mnangagwa’s favour.

There are calls for political reforms to be implemented to create a level playing field.
