Police Intercept 418 Bales Of Second-hand Clothes In Chipinge
Full Statement by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Assitant Commissioner Paul Nyathi on the smuggling of second-hand clothes into the country.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police warns criminals involved in smuggling activities throughout the country that Police will bust all the syndicates fleecing the nation of important revenue.
On 26th August 2021 at about 2200 hours, Police in Manicaland Province intercepted two Man trucks laden with 418 bales of second-hand clothes and shoes at Tanganda Business Centre, Chipinge.
Upon being flagged to stop by Police Officers, the drivers of the trucks parked their vehicles and fled.
One of the drivers later turned up at Mutare Police Station claiming ownership of one vehicle and was arrested.

The suspect is being charged under the Customs and Excise Act Chapter 23:02 “Failure to account for goods which are supposed to be accounted for”. Police have since launched a manhunt on the other driver.
Investigations revealed that the contraband was smuggled into the country through an unauthorised entry point at Southdowns, Chipinge.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police applauds members of the public for working together with law enforcement agencies in fighting smuggling activities.
