Teenager Dies After Being Assaulted During Football Match

Police are investigating a murder case in which a ten-year-old boy died after being assaulted by a thirteen-year-old boy while playing football in Glenview in Harare.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) posted on its Twitter handle saying the teenager died at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals a fortnight after the assault. Said ZRP:

Police in Harare are investigating circumstances surrounding a murder case in which a male juvenile (10) died upon admission at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals on 25/08/21.

The victim was assaulted by the suspect (13) while playing football at a borehole in Glenview on 10/08/21.

The incident happened when football is banned under COVID-19 lockdown level four which has been in effect for months now.

The government recently extended the lockdown by a further two weeks despite a decline in new coronavirus infections and deaths in recent weeks.
