Zimbabwe Can Qualify For World Cup: Knowledge Musona

Warriors captain, Knowledge Musona is optimistic that Zimbabwe can qualify for the 2022 Qatar World Cup considering the quality of players available.

Musona who now plays in Saudi Arabia told The Standard in an interview that the Warriors need to go strong in the first games that usually determine the tone of the whole campaign.

He speaks ahead of a clash with neighbouring South Africa at the National Sports Stadium on 3 September. He said:

We have a good team and I think we have the potential to win every game. Our team is good, but it all begins with the other coming games. If we start strong I think we can also finish strong.

I think we have the potential and quality we will see in the next two games. Those games will determine how far we are to go in the group up to the sixth game. As I always say we always focus on one game at a time and try to collect maximum points.

We are ready for it and it starts against South Africa and then we look at the game against Ethiopia. We have the potential to go on and qualify for the World Cup.

Musona also welcomed the 2020 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Finals draw that saw Zimbabwe being put in Group B together with 2019 finalists Senegal as well as Guinea and Malawi.

The AFCONs will be hosted by Cameroon.

Zimbabwe has previously never qualified for the World Cup competitions while it has also never progressed beyond group stages at the AFCON Finals.
