A COVID-19 vaccination centre launched in Harare’s Warren Park 1 suburb was inundated by local residents and people from the surrounding communities who came in their numbers to get vaccinated.
A private hospital, Suburban Medical Centre (SMC), launched the centre on Monday as a way of promoting the national vaccination programme and the global fight against the spread of SARS-CoV-2 the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
In an interview with H-Metro, the hospital’s Managing Director Advance Masarirevhu said:
We were not expecting a huge turn-out since we had not yet advertised but people came in their numbers.
On Saturday we vaccinated 50 people and 60 on Sunday. We are hoping to vaccinate about 100 more.
He also said that they launched the vaccination centre as a result of the long queues witnessed at Warren Park polyclinic. Said Masarirevhu:
We saw long queues at the polyclinic and we felt we should assist henceforth we launched our vaccination centre.
The hospital is targeting people from areas like Warren Park, Westwood, Kambuzuma and surrounding communities.
Suburban Medical Centre has been operating since August 1994 offering 24hr emergency rooms, admissions, radiology, dental, pharmacy, maternity, theatre and electrocardiography services.
