Long Distance Buses Fined $2 000 For Violating Intercity Ban

Police have fined three long-distance buses ZWL$2 000 each and their passengers ZWL$200 each for violating the COVID-19 intercity travel ban.

The three buses, which were impounded on Monday last week, are Silver King, Graca and Smart Express.

Chipinge Officer Commanding (Dispol) Kennedy Nyaumwe confirmed the matter to Chipinge Times, saying the buses were travelling from Mutare to Beitbridge.

He said Silver King and Graca were arrested at Nyanyadzi but they had no passengers.

It is suspected that the buses dropped off the passengers just before the roadblock with the plan that they would walk past through the bushes to avoid police.

Smart Express which was heading towards Masvingo was intercepted at Birchenough Bridge. Said Nayumwe:

We discourage members of the public from making unnecessary movements and instead, follow guidelines set by WHO and health officials.

The roadblocks will be there 24/7 and we hope our counterparts in various districts are doing the same.
