The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced the death of a robber who was part of a 6-member gang that travelled from South Africa and pounced on a Bulawayo house.
The police said two more members of the gang were injured. Reads the police statement:
The ZRP confirms that 1 armed robber has been shot dead & 2 injured when 6 armed robbers who had come all the way from SA pounced on a house along Franklin Drive, Fourwinds, Byo. 4 firearms have been recovered at the scene. More details to follow.
Residents of a neighbourhood on Franklin Drive told ZimLive that they woke up to the sound of gunfire as police battled six armed men.
A witness told the publication that when the guns fell silent, police took four men into custody and two suspects were dead. Said the witness:
The third man who was shot didn’t look too good, I would be surprised if he survives.
The six men, thought to have travelled from South Africa, were allegedly trying to rob a gold dealer when a team from CID Homicide in Bulawayo cornered them.
All six were on the police wanted list.
