Police Intercept 104 Congolese Refugees In Bulawayo

Police in Bulawayo on Tuesday intercepted a group of Congolese migrants who allegedly escaped from the Tongogara refugee camp in Chipinge and were reportedly in transit to the Democratic Republic of Congo via Botswana.

CITE reported sources as saying the 104 foreign nationals who included children were being kept at a house in Hillside suburb.

Police received a tip-off and descended on the house and took the foreign nationals to Hillside Police Station while suitable accommodation was being arranged for them.

The development was confirmed by National Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi. He said:

We confirm we have 104 foreign nationals that were found in Bulawayo believed to be from DRC. They are going through vetting by relevant government departments.
