BUILDING MATERIALS PRICE INDEX (JUNE 2019=100) – JUNE 2021

The Building Materials Price Index #BMPI quarterly rate of change in June 2021 was 8.68 per cent gaining 2.32 percentage points on the March 2021 rate of 6.36 per cent.

This means that prices, as measured by the all items BMPI, increased at an average rate of 8.68 per cent from March 2021 to June 2021.

  • The quarterly rate of change is given by the percentage change in the index of the relevant quarter of the current year compared with the index of the previous quarter.

The products that have contributed most to the rise in the index in June 2021 were pit sand, bison board, cement, galvanised iron pipes, softwood pine, wooden doors, paint, bolts, copper pipes, corrugated asbestos, river sand, building lime, electrical cables, locks, switch box, wall tiles, steel door frames, conduit, sink, nails, vinyl tiles, water heater, lavatory basin, steel windows, low-level suite, crushed stones, glazed salt piping, guttering gauge and termite poison.

The contribution of the following products was insignificant to the rise or fall of the index. The products are laminated pine, skirting meranti, skirting pine, cupboard, roof tiles, parquet blocks, distributor box and water heater.

The following products, that is, bath shower, tap board, bricks, tank and glass contributed to the decrease of the index.

The year on year Building Materials Price Index #BMPI rate of change stood at 54.43 per cent in June 2021.

  • The year-on-year inflation rate is given by the percentage change in the index of the relevant month of the current year compared with the index of the same month in the previous year.

This means that prices as measured by the all items Building Materials Prices Index #BMPI increased at an average rate of 54.43 per cent from March 2020 to March 2021.

The #BMPI for the month ending June 2021 stood at 1,789.60 compared to 1,646.73 in March 2021 and 1,158.82 in June 2020.
