Woman Donates Her Body To UZ Medical School

A Zimbabwean woman who died in South Africa on Sunday has donated her body to the University of Zimbabwe School of Medicine to be used in advancing the study of medicine.

The woman, Rosalie Majecha Chigariro (64), died after she went into a diabetic coma.

Family members who spoke on condition of anonymity to Masvingo Mirror confirmed the arrangement that Chigariro made with the university.

The donation is one of the few made by Zimbabweans in the cause of the advancement of science.

In one of the audios in Masvingo Mirror’s possession, Chigariro is heard instructing that after body viewing, her body be sent to the University.

She adds that after the studies, the body can then be cremated.

The publication says it has also seen a letter dated 26 July 2021 from the University’s Department of Biomedical sciences requesting Nyaradzo Funeral Services to surrender the body to the school.

Professor Rangarirai Masanganise who is the Dean of UZ College of Health Sciences said that the University receives bodies from time to time for use in the studies.
