ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS ON FRIDAY 23 JULY 2021 VALID UNTIL SATURDAY 25 JULY 2021.
Clear skies were experienced across the country in the morning with cold conditions, as a cool and relatively dry south-westerly airflow was affecting Matabeleland South and Masvingo Provinces.
This resulted in considerable ground frost in these areas, with some of the most severe having been Matopos (6.7°C), West Nicholson (-5.0°C) and Kezi (- 4.0°C).
As pressure should are expected to the southeast of the sub-continent, a south-easterly airflow is expected to influence weather over much of the country, Thus, maintaining the moist and cold south-easterly airflow across the country.
FORECAST
Consequently, TOMORROW SATURDAY 24 JULY 2021, it should be cold, cloudy to overcast and windy to the south of the main watershed (namely Bulawayo Metropolitan, southern areas of the Midlands, Matabeleland South, Masvingo, Manicaland, southern parts of Mashonaland East and Harare Metropolitan); whilst to the north, Matabeleland North, northern districts of the Midlands, Mashonaland West, Mashonaland Central and northern areas of Mashonaland East are expected to be cool and windy, becoming cloudy as the day progresses. Chances of ground frost will be diminished.
IMPACTS
- Cold conditions negatively impact health, with abrupt falls in temperatures increasing the risk of respiratory illnesses such as coughs and colds as well as asthma attacks.
- Low temperatures have negative impacts on poultry as well as some crops.
ACTIONS TO TAKE
- Keep warm by wearing appropriate winter attire; where possible stay indoors.
- Ensure that vulnerable members of society are kept warm.
- If you need to use a brazier or open fire to keep warm, ensure the room is well ventilated to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

- COVID is still a potential threat, stay safe, mask up, get vaccinated.

Cloudy to overcast, windy and cold conditions are expected over much of the country. There is a chance of drizzle in areas along and south of the main watershed, where the clouds should be thicker. Ground frost is not anticipated.
