Zimbabwe Receives 2 Million Doses Of Sinovac Vaccines

Zimbabwe has received two (2) million doses of Sinovac vaccines for Covid-19 purchased from China to reduce the impact of the virus threatening to get out of control.

The batch comes when the country is grappling with a third wave of the coronavirus that is reportedly being fuelled by the most contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus that was first detected in India.

The resurgence experienced in the country has prompted authorities to impose more strict preventive measures that include the dusk-to-dawn curfew and suspension of gatherings.

The batch is the largest single shipment into the country since the commencement of the mass vaccination exercise that has seen senior government officials including President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Deputy Constantino Chiwenga receiving jabs.

Zimbabwe takes delivery of the two million Sinovac doses as nearly 820 000 had received the first jab of COVID-19 vaccines as of 7 June 2021.

The Southern African country plans to vaccinate at least 10 million people to reach herd immunity.

The latest consignment means Zimbabwe now has more than four million doses in the country.

Finance Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube and Health Deputy Minister Dr John Mangwiro and a few other government officials received the consignment at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
