Nine of the people who were killed in a road accident along Zvishavane – Masvingo Highway on Monday afternoon were from the same family in Gutu, Masvingo Mirror reported.
Citing sources, the publication reported that the deceased nine belong to the Shara family and they were going to attend a funeral in Bulawayo using a Toyota Granvia.
They were reportedly coming from the Nemasiyana area in Mukaro near Gutu when the tragic accident occurred.
Meanwhile, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi has not yet revealed the names of those who perished in the accident.
Police on Monday said the accident occurred at the 61km peg along Masvingo–Mbalabala Road near Chitowa Business Centre, just after Mhandamabwe.
According to police, a Toyota Granvia which was travelling from Masvingo towards Zvishavane burst a tyre resulting in the driver losing control of the vehicle.
The Gravia encroached onto an oncoming Toyota Wish’s lane which was coming from the Zvishavane direction resulting in the head-on collision.
Twenty people died on the spot while three others were injured and taken to Zvishavane District Hospital.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Masvingo Provincial Hospital, police said.
