ZANU PF Orders Aspiring MPs, Councillors To Submit CVs For Vetting

The ruling ZANU PF party is already preparing for by-elections despite their indefinite suspension by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) because of the raging COVID-19 pandemic.

In a circular dated 1 July 2021 and directed to all ZANU PF provincial chairpersons, the party’s Acting Secretary for Commissariat, Patrick Chinamasa said the deadline for the submission of Curriculum Vitaes (CVs) by aspiring MPs and Councillors is 16 July 2021. The circular read:

All Provinces are directed to call for submission of Curriculum Vitaes (CVS) by 16 July 2021 for all vacant National Assembly and Local Government seats where Primary Elections have not been held yet.

On receipt of the CVs, Provincial Election Directorate, should meet to consider the CVS, make comments and recommendations for each of the applicants.

Provinces should then forward the CVs to the Commissariat Department at Party Headquarters for vetting and approval.

In turn, the Commissariat Department will advise Provinces on dates for the Primary Elections once the dates have been set.

Please note that Provincial Elections Directorates do not have the mandate to disqualify any aspiring candidate and that no primary elections should be held either for National Assembly or Local Government seats without authorisation from the National Secretary for Commissariat.

In constituencies and wards where elections were held Provinces are requested to submit names of the winning candidates and their CVs.

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission((ZEC) recently said that it is committed and ready to hold by-elections but is only waiting for a nod from the Health and Child Care Ministry.

The Ministry of Health suspended public gatherings as part of efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

ZEC said there were 117 pending by-elections but that the COVID-19 pandemic had made it impossible for the body to hold elections.
