Zimbabwe Should Be Online Not In Lines - Chamisa

MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa has said Zimbabwe should move towards the provision of services online to avoid the obtaining situation whereby the citizenry spends hours in lines.

The former Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services said Zimbabwe needs smart policies for transformation to take place. He said:

_ZIMBABWE MUST BE ONLINE NOT IN LINES…_

_Queues are evidence of inefficiency and failure. Zimbabwe needs a Great RESET. Citizen Identity registration and voter registration must be online, digital, biometric, automatic and a right. A digitized citizens database is key_

Chamisa shared an MDC document – MDC Alliance Smart Pledge – which details some of the party’s objectives. Reads the document:

v. Ensure reduced costs of service delivery by promoting competition among service providers;
vi. Expansion of the range of e-applications that arc available, particularly in government, health, education, accounting, engineering and financial services.

The MDC Alliance will ensure that the following services are available:

i. Online visa applications;

ii. Online passport application;

iii. Online voter registration;

iv. Online access to ID cards, births and death registration certificates

The document also said the MDC Alliance government will promote the integration and use of Block Technology in the following areas:
i. Finance and Banking.

ii. Identity Management

iii Asset registration.

iv. Crypto Assets

v. Revenue Collection

Chamisa speaks as the Registrar-General’s office is failing to produce adequate identity and travellers’ documents including ID cards and passports a situation that has seen services seekers sleeping at the offices or stand in elongated queues.

Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Ministry recently announced that it will be issuing passports online as a way to clear a backlog that dates back to 2019.
