Harare City Council Gives Ultimatum To Illegal Consumers Of Water

Harare City Council has warned residents and businesses that are accessing water illegally that they will be penalised.

In a statement on Wednesday, Council advised people whose water meters were stolen or are non-functional to regularise their connections on or before 6 July 2021 or face the risk of sanctions. Read the statement:

Council notifies all residents accessing council water illegally and/or have non-functional or stolen water meters to urgently regularise their connections on or before 06 July 2021 at Old Mutual House corner Speke and Sam Nujoma Streets.

The exercise is part of our thrust to reduce non-revenue water. Failure to regularise before the stipulated date will attract penalties. Sanctions may include prosecution and/or permanent removal of their connections.

Households and business premises with non-functional water meters can enter into a special arrangement with council for the replacement of their water meters.
