ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS ON SATURDAY 19 JUNE 2021 VALID UNTIL MONDAY 21 JUNE 2021.

PREAMBLE

Pressure rises along the southeast coast of Southern Africa has resulted in cloudy, windy and cold morning conditions in areas such as Matabeleland South, Masvingo and Manicaland Provinces.

Morning patchy drizzle occurred at Nyanga, Buhera and Buffalo Range whilst Chipinge received the highest falls of 4.7mm.

Cloudy and windy conditions accompanied with patchy morning drizzle are expected to dominate areas such as Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, southern parts of Midlands, Masvingo, Manicaland and Mashonaland East Provinces.

Mostly cloudy conditions with isolated showers in places are anticipated in areas such as Harare Metropolitan, Midlands, Matabeleland North and Mashonaland West and Central Provinces.

It should be cold both in the morning and evening, though mild by the afternoon.

IMPACTS

  • Cold conditions in the early hours of the morning have negative impacts on poultry and some crops.
  • Low temperatures may affect the health of all persons, however, persons of an ill disposition, the elderly and young children tend to be more vulnerable.

ACTIONS TO TAKE

  • Ensure that vulnerable members of society are kept warm, especially overnight.
  • Avoid brazier or open fire to keep warm, in an unventilated room to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
  • Farmers are urged to seek advice from Agritex officers on ways to mitigate the effects of ground frost on livestock and crops (especially horticultural produce) during these cold periods.
  • COVID is still a potential threat, stay safe, mask up, get vaccinated.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR MONDAY 21 JUNE 2021

  • It should be mostly cloudy and windy, with light drizzle in areas such as Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Masvingo, Midlands and Manicaland.
  • Isolated showers are probable over Harare Metropolitan, Matabeleland North, Midlands and all Mashonaland Provinces.
  • Cold morning conditions are anticipated, becoming mild in the afternoon though cold again in the evening.
