Ghost Costume Thief Jailed For Three Years

The 27-year-old Gutu thief famed for wearing black and white regalia, “the ghost costume” that made him appear like a ghost, has been jailed for three years.

Norman Chagwiza of Mutsambiwa village under Chief Gutu was last week jailed by Gutu Magistrate Mr Madhlenkosi Ndlovu on his own plea of guilty to robbery charges.

Mr Ndlovu initially sentenced him to four years in prison before conditionally suspending 12 months for good behaviour.

The State alleges Chipika submitted to Chagwiza’s demands after being retried by his scary apparel.

Two weeks later, Chagwiza went to Thomas Chivhura’s homestead and attempted to steal a solar panel system that was on the roof of the latter’s bedroom house.

Chivhura became suspicious when he heard movements on the roof and came out prompting the thief who was also wearing his ghost costume to flee.

Chivhura teamed up with neighbours, pursued and apprehended Chagwiza whom they later handed over to the police.
