HAPPY AFRICA DAY

In line with our Global Agenda, we pay tribute to our founding fathers who were fiercely committed to the Pan-African vision of an independent and united continent.

We are forever grateful for the continental solidarity during the struggle for Zimbabwe’s independence.

Significant strides have been made towards democratic consolidation, regional integration and improving the quality of life for ordinary African citizens including the commencement of the African Continental Free Trade Area.

However, corruption and authoritarian rule in some countries including Zimbabwe threaten Africa’s democratic and developmental advance.

We call for acceleration in the implementation of Agenda 2063 by AU member states in pursuit of the continental vision of ‘an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in the global arena’.

The 2021 theme ‘The Arts, Culture and Heritage: Levers for Building the Africa We Want” seeks to explore ways in which the rich African heritage and culture can be leveraged for Africa’s growth and transformation.
Aspiration 5 of Agenda 2063 envisions an Africa with a strong cultural identity, common heritage, shared values and ethics.

The Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs) are important to the attainment of continental objectives on regional integration, inclusive sustainable economic growth and development.

We urge African governments to promote national and regional cohesion by investing in African culture and heritage including its languages as a vehicle for promoting and achieving the national economic and social development goals outlined in Agenda 2063.

We further call for African governments to ratify the Charter for African Cultural Renaissance to promote African identity, shared values, the spirit of Pan- Africanism and African Renaissance.

Heri ya Siku ya Afrika! Filis dia di Afrika! Silifisela usuku Iwe Afrika oluhle! Tinogonda muchaa nezuwa reAfrica rakaseja! Bunya baAfrica ha bwan! Happy Africa Day! Bonne journee de l’Afrique!
