Zimbabwe’s 2021 cotton marketing season officially started on Tuesday, 18th of May 2021.
In a statement yesterday, the Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA), said only registered contractors and farmers will participate in the marketing season activities.
AMA said the price of seed cotton for the 2021 marketing season is ZWL$85 per kilogramme and there will be a total of 772 Cotton Common Buying Points: 359 permanent points and 413 mobile points.
AMA said it has recruited and deployed 359 clerks to man all cotton buying points to monitor and enforce regulations. It added:
In terms of S196 of 2021, cotton must be delivered to the following designated agents; The Cotton Company of Zimbabwe, Southern Cotton Company, Zimbabwe Cotton Company, Alliance Ginneries and ShawashAgri
All buyers are required to purchase seed cotton from areas in which they supported growers with inputs for production. The areas are reflected on the buyers’ licenses.
In this regard, farmers are reminded not to side market and deliver seed cotton to their respective contractors.
Any buyer who has not contracted cotton production is therefore warned against buying cotton.
The authority said it will produce a weekly cotton market review to provide accurate and timely information with regards to this year’s cotton marketing.
All market players, (regulators, buyers, and farmers), are required to follow World Health Organisation COVID-19 recommended health and safety protocols such as wearing face masks, handwashing, sanitizing and
practising social distancing, AMA said.
