Eswatini Govt Reacts To Attacks On Its Drivers In South Africa

Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), has expressed concern over recent attacks on drivers from the country in South Africa.

In a statement this Saturday, Eswatini Minister of Foreign Affairs Thulisile Dladla said they will be engaging all stakeholders in response to violence against the drivers.

Dladla, however, did not name the country whose citizens were subjecting emaSwati truck drivers “to cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment”. The country is believed to be South Africa. The statement read:

The Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini is very concerned about the emergence of recent video evidence from social media platforms wherein truck drivers from Eswatini are subjected to cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment by citizens of a neighbouring country.

Government has since taken the necessary measures in convening all national stakeholders to address this issue, with the aim of forging a lasting solution.

Government will also engage in earnest with its neighbours, through diplomatic channels, to revive a wholesome dialogue on all matters that are of importance to us.

We appeal for calm from all citizens of Eswatini as deliberate steps are being taken for this specific turn of events.
