JUST IN: Justice Chitapi Grants Bail To Mamombe, Chimbiri
High Court judge, Justice Tawanda Chitapi, Wednesday granted $20,000 bail each to MDC Alliance duo Joana Mamombe and Cecilia Chimbiri, with strict conditions.
The ruling was expected Tuesday but was delayed to Wednesday after the learned judge said he had a toothache.
Granting bail to Harare West MP Mamombe and MDC Alliance deputy Youth Assembly Secretary Chimbiri, Justice Chitapi, however, noted that their alleged conduct was “testing the court’s patience”
Mamombe and Chimbiri are being accused of breaching Covid-19 regulations after holding a press conference at the Magistrates’ Court expressing disappointment and solidarity with their colleague Makomborero Haruzivishe who was convicted and sentenced to 14 months in jail.
Mamombe and Chimbiri’s prolonged detention had attracted criticism on the ZANU PF government led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
