Multi-billionaire and Microsoft founder Bill Gates has announced their divorce that ends their 27-year-old marriage with his 58-year-old wife Melinda.
Although the duo’s joint statement did not state any reason for the divorce, Melinda in 2019 said their marriage has been “incredibly hard”, saying that Bill, 65, regularly works 16-hours per day and can find it hard to make time for the family.
Bill recently resigned from Microsoft Board and from Warren Buffet’s massive holding company Berkshire Hathaway.
The duo had 3 children together, Jennifer, 25, Rory, 21, and Phoebe, 18.
The tweet, however, indicated that despite the divorce, the duo will continue their philanthropic work together as Bill and Melinda Gates foundation. The pair said in a joint statement posted on Twitter on Monday:
_After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage. Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives. We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives. We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life._
