JUST IN: Ex-Commissioner Found With Written Notes During NPRC Interviews

Former National Peace and Reconciliation Commission commissioner (NPRC), Leslie Ncube, was found with a paper with written notes during her interview for a post at the Commission.

The interview was interrupted following the discovery. The development prompted some observers to conclude that the questions were leaked.

Giving an update on the NPRC interviews, the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum said:

The interview with former Commissioner Leslie Ncube was interrupted following the emergence that the candidate was in possession of a paper with written notes.

The Committee on Standing Rules and Orders (CSRO) members shared their views on the incident. However, the broadcast was suddenly terminated before a deliberation was reached.

There are eight vacancies to be filled on the NPRC. One vacancy arose in February 2020 when a member resigned and the other seven in February 2021 when the 5-year term of office of the commissioners came to an end.

The commission has a number of functions including ensuring post-conflict justice, healing and reconciliation; to develop and implement programmes to promote national healing, unity and cohesion in Zimbabwe and the peaceful resolution of disputes.

NPRC is also mandated to bring about national reconciliation by encouraging people to tell the truth about the past and facilitating the making of amends and the provision of justice.
