FULL TEXT: MDC-T Statement On Latest National Standing Committee Meeting

Statement by the MDC-T Secretary Information and Publicity Witness Dube on the National Standing Committee meeting held on 14 April 2021.

The MDC-T National Standing Committee met late yesterday at Morgan Tsvangirai House to deliberate on a number of key issues affecting both the Party and the nation.

The party reiterated its call for transparency on the distribution of Covid 19 vaccines across the country, and for the nation to maintain a high alert on the pandemic to mitigate against the impact of a possible future wave of infections.

The Mozambique security situation was considered, and the party calls on the Government of Zimbabwe to keep the nation updated with regards to the security status of Zimbabweans in the Cabo Delgado region, as well as its possible impact on our domestic security.

On the national dialogue, there were fruitful deliberations that were informed by encouraging news that the broader society is warmly receiving this initiative.

Various academics, diplomats and ordinary citizens have shown interest in being further informed on the nature and agenda of our proposed dialogue.

The standing committee noted the continued groundswell as evidenced by the numbers of people turning out at the ongoing gap-filling exercises that have been taking place nationwide.

The President warned the Party to keep watch against its distractors, especially ZANU PF, and other elements attempting to capture the opposition vote for their selfish interests.
