WATCH: COVID-19 Vaccines And Each's Efficacy

There are a number of COVID-19 vaccines being produced globally and they differ on their efficacy. Zimbabwe procured the Chinese SINOVAC whose efficacy is at 50.7 per cent.

Dr Norman Matara claims the vaccine was produced before the emergence of new strains like the one being found in Brazil.

He adds that the vaccine has managed to retain 50.7% efficacy against new strains & 100% in preventing deaths. The World Health Organisation (W.H.O) Covid-19 vaccines efficacy threshold is 50 per cent. Said Dr Matara:

Full results of study against the variant in Brazil

  1. 50.7% efficacy in preventing primary symptomatic infections
  2. Approx 84% efficacy in preventing moderate disease in the 50% who get infected
  3. 100% effective in preventing severe disease and death I would take it any day
